SCEC

SPOTLIGHT ON:

Reneisha Cherry, current Louisiana Council for Exceptional Children (LA CEC) Student Chapter Governor, was appointed to the International/National CEC Student Committee for a one year term beginning January 1, 2011.  Reneisha was one of three CEC student members chosen from a pool of 24 applicants.  Individuals were selected based on having a strong vision on how the committee can better serve CEC student members now and in the future,  and providing diversity as well as balance with respect to demographic representation, undergraduate and graduate student representation, volunteer and professional experiences with CEC and other organizations that serve individuals with disabilities, and leadership abilities. The Student Committee advises the Board of Directors on ways to recruit student members, increase diversity, and improve the transition of student to professional membership. The Committee also conducts an Issues Forum at the annual convention, selects recipients for the Student Awards, and chooses candidates for the student representatives to the CEC Representation Assembly.  Reneisha will be an asset to the CEC Student Committee!

Chantal Shoemake, current Louisiana Council for Exceptional Children (LA CEC) Student Chapter President, was awarded the national CEC Graduation (undergraduate) Stipend Award.  Only two scholarships are annually awarded: one for an undergraduate and one for a graduate student. Chantal will receive a plaque or certificate and a cash award at the awards ceremony during the 2011 CEC Annual Convention & Expo and will be recognized on the CEC Web site as the undergraduate recipient.
Congratulations to both of our Student Leaders!  We are very proud of the difference our LA CEC Student Board members are making in CEC!
